vals 1
[CLASS STARTS MARCH 17th]
At a Milonga, you have 3 styles of Tango. Argentine Tango. Argentine Milonga, and Argentine Vals! What’s Vals ? Think of Vals as Tango’s much younger but more refined sibling with LOTS of interesting ways to play with the music. Of the 3 Argentine dances, this one has a cousin that you may already be familiar with (which is where it came from) Viennese Waltz. However, this is Argentine Waltz (Vals), and its just a tad closer and a tad more intimate than that Ballroom noise.
In this class we’re going to demystify the form. We’re going to take apart the musical elements that make up Vals music. And lastly we’re going to show you simple but seemingly complex patterns that you can use today, to go out on a social dance floor with (with a little practice) later on.
This class will be broken up into 3 parts: The Music. The Motion. The Motion to the Music!
WEEK 1 – The Venerable Rock
WEEK 2 – Forward, Side, Back.
WEEK 3 – On the One.
Partners: You do not need a partner. You do not need tango shoes; socks are preferred. You do however have to have clean teeth, and take a shower once a day at least (smile).
Parking: If you do drive & you need to park: option 1.) Park at 65 JFK St. and walk over. 2.) I suggest you drive to Alewife and take the T to Harvard Sq.
Donation: EIGHT dollars per class. If you can’t afford it, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come. It just means you’ll hook up later when you can. Come to class and learn what your friends have been raving about: Argentine Tango….IT ROCKS!
